Which disease activity instruments are used in paediatric rheumatology?

Validated paediatric-specific tools rather than adult ones. The Juvenile Arthritis Disease Activity Score, the Childhood Health Assessment Questionnaire for function, the Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index adapted for children, and established response criteria for juvenile arthritis are all in use. Name the instrument and the assessment intervals in the protocol, and confirm a validated translation exists.

How are participants recruited in such a small specialty?

Through the clinic cohort, which is an advantage rather than a limitation. Children with chronic rheumatic disease attend regularly and are usually well documented over years, so a service following a hundred children provides a stable and complete population for cross-sectional study. Retrospective analysis of existing clinic records is also unusually productive here.

Why forty topics rather than fifty?

How is a thesis topic different from a thesis protocol?

The topic is the title — the question a study sets out to answer, together with the population and the design. When does a postgraduate thesis have to be submitted?

How is sample size decided for a postgraduate thesis?
