Why is the preanalytical phase such a common thesis subject?
Because it produces most laboratory error and almost none of it is captured elsewhere. Haemolysis, insufficient volume, wrong container, unlabelled samples and clotted specimens are all recorded at receipt, which means a rejection register already holds the raw material for a study. The findings are also directly actionable, which examiners tend to regard well.
What is a method comparison study and why does it suit laboratory medicine?
It evaluates a new or alternative method against an established one on the same specimens, reporting agreement rather than description. Bland-Altman analysis and regression against the reference method are the standard approaches.
